Six-year-old sells her toys to help treatment centre

Faith Manchee, from Lancing, was awarded a fundraising certificate at the Sussex MS Treatment Centre in Southwick on Friday, and received an extra special thanks from staff at the centre. Faith began fund-raising at the beginning of November last year, using Facebook to sell her unwanted toys, clothing and other items donated to her by friends and family. Emma Manchee, Faith’s mother, said: “She saw her father and uncle raising money for the charity, and then one day she went upstairs got all her unused toys out and said she wanted to sell them. We are all so proud of her. “She picked up the fundraising completely of her own accord. She made leaflets to hand out all around our community and even made her own stall at school to sell her toys and old clothes. She has had fantastic support.” The centre, in Croft Avenue, is something very close to her heart as her grandfather suffers with multiple sclerosis and uses its facilities. Faith also visits the centre regularly, as her grandmother spends a lot of time volunteering there. Her mother said Faith was planning to continue her fundraising efforts on behalf of the centre this year. Hilary Green, deputy centre manager, said: “She’s an inspiration. I almost came to tears when I heard what she was doing, it’s so sweet of her.” She said the centre was run and funded by volunteers and the money Faith raised would continue their work supporting people with treatment and therapy.
