MAYOR'S MOMENT: Committed to helping the park

During this quieter time it has given me an opportunity to focus on getting up to date with other commitments and projects, including the role I play on the committee of Littlehampton Musical Comedy Society and getting plans in place for the civic service at St Marys on May 6 at 3pm, to which all are welcome. While mentioning my involvement in other groups, I am delighted to tell you that at the annual general meeting of the Friends of Mewsbrook Park I was elected as their chairman for the year ahead. Although I have been raising money towards the group’s projects over my year as mayor, it was never my original intention to stand as chairman. However, since October, the future of the society has been in question and without a new committee stepping forward it was likely the group would be forced to disband. I thank the group and its members for all their effort in the past and now, together with a new larger committee, we will be looking towards the future. The committee and I are working hard to put a plan together with both short and long term goals, and working together with other stakeholders of the park in order to provide a more cohesive approach to get more done for the better of everyone. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you all that on tonight, at 6pm, Littlehampton Town Council will play host to the annual town meeting at the Millennium Chamber in the Manor House, Church Street. This is a meeting of local government electors of Littlehampton at which matters of local interest can be discussed. I am anticipating questions will be raised regarding local policing and it is hoped that Kris Ottery, acting chief inspector of Sussex Police, will be in attendance to address questions about policing in the town.
