The authority granted outline planning permission two years ago for developers to build the houses on land north of Barnhorn Road.
Two applications, one to build 275 dwellings and another to provide a further 67 instead of a primary school, were agreed by Rother District Council’s planning committee.

Objectors said there would be a further increase in traffic and congestion along Barnhorn Road and surrounding areas, a harmful increase in traffic pollution and access issues for emergency, delivery, refuse vehicles and buses.
They also said the new homes represented an overdevelopment and an unacceptable high level of housing density not in keeping with the locality which would have a harmful impact on the character of Little Common and the surrounding area.
As regards the second application, developers have permission to substitute the primary school permitted by the outline planning permission for 67 extra houses instead.
