FRIENDS OF KINGSCOTE: at the Bluebell Railway, lineside gang have been in action all year and have kept the areas around and south of the station neat and tidy. In inclement weather this is the work of a most dedicated team. The platform gardens require constant attention and it is gratifying for them to receive so many complimentary remarks. The biggest task by value this year has been the replacement of the handrails in the downside subway staircase which have been much admired. The Friends were most fortunate that this job was funded by sponsors. The variety of tasks the Friends undertake is considerable and the tasks are diverse. The diverse tasks undertaken by the Friends include eight benches/trolleys refurbished, three lamp heads repaired/refurbished, a fence erected around the east side of the picnic area, all unpainted wooden fences painted with wood protectant, three planters refurbished, lawns scarified and seed sown, down canopy walls washed down, refreshment signs for Well House completed and the upside running in board has been repaired (wood rot) and repainted and will be reinstated very shortly. Also preparations for the Kingscote Goods Yard Project included assisting with the removal of the tall fir trees bordering Vowels Lane, repairing the fence, emptying and knocking down the Giraffe House. As these tasks have opened up that part of the station, the PMV and Brake Van are now being cosmetically restored by The Friends, the PMV being particularly unsightly. The Friends have recently been joined by three new working members and warmly invite others to join them whether it is to assist with gardening or other maintenance. Please call 01825 720800 to find out more.
BRIGHTON HALF MARATHON: takes place on Sunday February 26 and Chailey Heritage Foundation has five places to allocate and needs two volunteers to assist on the day. If you would like to take part or are able to assist please call 01825 724752 or email [email protected].
